Events at Bhavani CDC
 
Mrs. Vimala Vebkatesan conducted a two day workshop at the JG internationalschool Ahmedabad. on the 10th and 11th of March .
The teacher’s workshops were on the following topics
Learner centered psychological principles that enhance learning skills in children Sankhya Gyan and Brain Gym

Sankhya Gyan is a mathematics project developed by Vimala Venkatesan with which to develop activity models that use children's interests and everyday activities-such asgames, puzzles and art.The games, puzzles act as springboards to construct cognitive development which will build solid content knowledge and develop higher-order thinking in the development of mathematical activity.

Sankhya Gyan includes a variety of games. along with different versions of the same game which are designed to be easily prepared and used with children.


Brain gym…. Movements that enhance learning
Brain Gym movements in classrooms as a tool to integrate the brain before learning, work, or sports activities, as well as during breaks. Children obtain specific results with Brain Gym movements to integrate the brain for learning activities like memory, concentration and even writing!
Brain Gym benefits include improvements in learning, vision, memory,
expression, and movement abilities, in both young people and adults. In the
classroom, teachers typically report improvements in attitude, attention,
homework, behavior, and academic performance for the entire class.


The program strategy for the learner centered psychological principles that enhance learning skills in children was to play, plan and create a situation where children will experience opportunities developing memory, attention and concentration, imagination and strategic thinking.

   
Children’s Day, 2004 and 2005.
Children from Bhavani CDC and from selected mainstream schools participated in an art competition and a quiz competition.
The programmes were not only enjoyable, but also they were eye openers as they proved that reverse inclusion programmes do not set apart children with learning disability from the mainstream activities.
 
Annual tree planting ceremony July 2002,2003,2004,2005
Every year children plant trees in the area in and around the Centre. Children also went on treks and nature walks to understand the gifts of nature.
 
Awareness programme…. April 2004
Bhavani CDC organised an awareness programme on child development & learning disabilities. The keynote address was given by Dr. Sitaraman, Developmental Pediatrician, Jaykaylon Hospital. Teachers from thirty schools in Jaipur attended the session.
 
 
Seminar on Sensory Integration. 15 October 2004.
Bhavani CDC organised the first seminar on Sensory Integration at Jaipur.
Ms. Anjali Joshi and Ms. Ashwini Vaishampayan, Occupational Therapists, KEM Hospital Mumbai, addressed a gathering of parents and childcare personnel.
The CDC also organised the first one to one assessment programme for more than 25 children after the seminar.
 
Brain Gym and the Art of Story Telling. February 2005
Bhavani CDC was able to spread the art of Story telling and Brain Gym to more than 300 children, teachers and parents in an event organised by the Center.
Geeta Ramanujam Executive Director of Kathalaya conducted the story telling workshop.
Dr. Sumathi Vasudevan, Director of Samvardhana Learning Center, Chennai, conducted a session on Brain Gym which involves various activities, movements and games that help in whole brain development.

December 2002: A paper on Programme for Evaluating Learning and Performance (PEPAL) at the International Conference held at Chennai.
April 2003 and 2005: Papers related to PEPAL (Programme for Evaluating Learning and Performance) at ODE (Optimizing Development In Education) at Panchkula, Chandigarh.
March 2006: Public workshop on PEPAL, Maharashtra Dyslexia Association, Bombay.
