PEPAL is
one of Bhavani CDCs most important contributions to
the assessment of children with learning
difficulties. Designed by Vimala Venkatesan and
actively used by the Center, PEPAL helps identify
specific problems and therefore facilitates the
design of programmes tailored to the specific needs
of the child.
|
While problems in reading, writing, spelling and maths are easy to detect,
it is much harder to
detect difficulties
such as:
|
Following directions,
Concentration and paying attention
Organisation skills
Co-ordinating
Managing time
Sequencing |
 |
|
|
 |
|
PEPAL is a game based assessment tool used while the
child is playing in his /her natural environment. We
introduce the child o specific games that have been
selected because they require some basic ability in
|
Initiative,
Social relations
Logic and mathematics
Language and literacy
Creativity |
 |
|
|
All of the above are important components for
development and learning. The games are by and large
traditional games from different parts of India.
PEPAL helps to assess and evaluate the children’s
strength and style
in the auditory, visual and kinaesthetic areas.
PEPAL helps
As a developmental screening test for children below
six years
(to be followed by developmental evaluation for
those identified as requiring intervention)
To identify children with Learning Disabilities or
classifiable as Slow Learners
who may need specialized placement (e.g., special
education) or a modified, individualized classroom
programme. |
